Live Scan and Ink Fingerprinting

If you have been directed by a public or private agency or employer to report for live scan service, please see our FAQs page for detailed information on how to proceed.

California Live Scan is certified and approved by the California Department of Justice to provide live scan fingerprinting throughout Southern California. We are able to roll fingerprints, both in our Los Angeles office and, using our mobile service, throughout Southern California. No other live scan service can offer the convenience we do. Because we can take a subject’s fingerprints anywhere and anytime, you will receive the fastest possible results from the DOJ.

In addition to the live scan technology used by the California Department of Justice, we are certified by the FRI to roll prints for their form FD-258, the ink fingerprint card. We take the subject’s prints electronically, and then use an FBI-approved printer to produce the card. (We can furnish you with an FD-258 card if one was not provided for you by your requesting agency.)

An ink fingerprint card is required for such purposes as out-of- state licensing, FINRA, Federal contracts and employment, national agencies mandates, immigration and international work visas, as well as all nationwide background checks from the FBI.

Important: Before your agency can submit fingerprints to the Department of Justice for a criminal background check, you must receive authorization from the State and obtain an Originating Agency Identifier (ORI) code. Full details on this process can be found on the California Department of Justice website at https://oag.ca.gov/fingerprints/agencies.

Please call us at (833) 669-7226 to arrange for a subject to be fingerprinted. Once the prints are taken, we forward them directly to the Department of Justice. In most cases, the results of background checks are available to the requesting agency within three business days.

Fees

California Live Scan charges a $25.00 rolling fee per subject. Certain characteristics such as cuts, scars or callouses may case the Department of Justice to reject live scan fingerprints. If an applicant’s fingerprints are rejected for any reason, California Live Scan will re-scan and resubmit your fingerprints at no additional charge.

The rolling fee is in addition to the application fee charged by the requesting agency. Some of the more common government fees are:

DOJ (California Department of Justice) and FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) $32.00
FBI (for Non-profit volunteers) $15.00
FBI Channeling $90.00
